Finasterideis the substance contained in the drug Propecia and is considered a hair growth agent. This preparation is a hair lossremedy for men. Women must not use it as it can cause severe birth defects in pregnant women.
Propecia works by inhibiting the enzyme (5-alpha reductase) that causes testosterone to form dihydrotestosterone (also called DHT). DHT is the substance that causes androgenetic hair loss – that is, male pattern baldness.

Minoxidilis the substance that has been approved the longest as a hair growth remedy for hair loss. American scientists were working on new heart medicines and saw how some experimental animals experienced increased hair growth. The drug’s effectiveness against hair loss was thus discovered by chance.
Minoxidil is available in Sweden as a 2% formula for female hair loss and as a 5% formula for men. Minoxidil is sold in Sweden under brand names such as Rogaine, Recreaand Orifarm.
