Minoxidil for hair loss
Are you also one of those who have started to lose more hair than usual and are frantically googling “hair loss solutions”? If you’ve googled this, you’ve probably heard of Minoxidil and how it can combat hair loss. We’ve delved into the subject to find out if the drug really works.
What is it?
Well over 20 years ago, a company called Upjohnwas testing different treatments for a heart disease called Lonitis.
During the clinical trials for some patients, they noticed that hair grew back in areas where it was previously missing. This led Upjohn to mix the ingredients into a solution that came to be called Minoxidil.
The drug was then re-labelled as Rogaine for sale to the general public.
Minoxidil as a treatment
The drug has been shown to have a very good effect on hair growth. It is not a cure for hair loss but it works as a complement to other treatments.
How does it work?
You use the medicine on your scalp once or twice a day.
Today, the drug is also available as both a mousse and a 15% strength spray.
