Male pattern baldness
Finasteride and male pattern baldness
Male pattern hair loss is genetically caused by a hormone called Dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
We all have an enzyme called II 5-alpha-reductase in our bodies, which converts testosterone into the steroid hormone DHT.
The hormone shortens the hair growth phase, leading to thinner hair and in turn (male) hair loss.
Finasteride works against male pattern baldness by blocking (inhibiting) the enzyme so that DHT cannot be produced.
If you have a relatively light hair loss, Finasteride can be an effective solution. The earlier you start the medicine, the better effect it will have on your hair follicles.
