Many men dream of a fuller, denser beard, but not everyone has the natural genetics to grow a thick beard. One solution that has become increasingly popular is using the over-the-counter drug Minoxidil to stimulate beard growth.

What is Minoxidil?

The drug is applied topically to the skin, usually in the form of a solution or foam. It is used to treat hereditary hair loss in men over 18, but also in women. For women, only the weakest version of Minoxidil is approved (2%). Recently, it has become popular to use Minoxidil on the face, as it can revive dormant hair follicles and give a thicker beard. The preparation works by increasing blood flow to the area where it is applied, which in turn improves the supply of nutrients. This stimulates the hair follicles to start producing stronger, thicker and darker hairs.

How is Minoxidil used for beard growth?

Can Minoxidil be used on beards? To achieve the best possible results for your beard, it is recommended to apply the product to the areas of your face where you want to have fuller beard growth, usually the cheeks, chin and upper lip. The application is done twice a day, and it is important to be consistent.
The effect varies, but many who use Minoxidil report that it takes between 3 and 6 months before you see clear results. Some even experience increased results after even longer. So patience is required, but for many it is well worth the wait.

Is there Minoxidil specifically for the beard?

There are currently no Minoxidil products specifically designed for the beard. However, the same products used for the scalp are also used on the face. These products usually contain 5% Minoxidil, which is a concentration that has been shown to be effective for both hair and beard growth. Both liquid and foam solutions work, but some people prefer the foam version as it tends to dry faster and be less irritating to the skin on the face.

Who is Minoxidil beard treatment suitable for?

  • Have sparse or uneven beard growth
  • I have tried shaving my beard but haven’t gotten the desired results.
  • Want a fuller, denser and more defined beard?
  • Want to avoid surgical procedures

Combine Minoxidil with PRP treatment for best results

To further improve the results, the treatment can be combined with PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatments. It is a natural treatment where your own blood plasma, rich in growth factors, is injected into the skin to stimulate the hair follicles.
When it comes to beard growth, PRP works by stimulating hair growth or improving the quality of existing hair. The treatment has long been used for the scalp, but more and more people are starting to use it for the beard as well.
When PRP is combined with Minoxidil, you get a double effect: PRP stimulates from the inside, while Minoxidil acts externally by improving blood flow and nutrient absorption in the skin. The combination has proven very effective for people who have sparse beard growth or difficulty growing an even beard. We also recommend using a dermaroller as a complement to increase hair growth.

Andreas’ path to a thicker beard with Minoxidil and PRP

A concrete example of how effective the product can be for beard growth is our customer Andreas. For many years he had a very sparse beard growth and thought that he simply lacked the genetics to be able to grow a beard. He only had a little hair on his chin and nothing on his cheeks.
When he turned 30, he decided to give it a try. He started using Minoxidil twice a day, every day. After a few months, he saw noticeable improvement – but wanted to take it a step further.
Then he also chose to undergo PRP for his beard. The combination of Minoxidil and PRP finally gave results. Today, Andreas has an even, natural and fuller beard, something he previously thought was impossible.
