It is a further developed variant of FUE method (Follicular Unit Excision) and is based on the same basic principle: individual hair follicles (grafts) is extracted from an area with a lot of hair (donor area) and placed in an area where more hair is desired (recipient area). The big difference lies in how to insert the hair follicles into the skin.
While FUE requires first making small incisions (channels) in the area to place the new hair follicles in, the DHI technique does not require any incisions before inserting the hair follicle. Instead, a special tool called Choi-pen is used, which allows one to both make the new channel for the hair follicle and place it simultaneously
